Choti choti batyen of North Karanpura - Bye bye NTPC.

Choti choti batyen of North Karanpura - Bye bye NTPC.

By the end of the month I shall leave NTPC due to attainment of superannuation age. While I will enjoy many things being out of NTPC, I shall also miss many things that are exclusives of NTPC. Therefore, let’s recollect some of those things that I’m going to miss from the day of my 2nd innings.

01. Managing & maintaining a cable TV connection for home: For whole of my life, I stayed in NTPC township. Therefore, the residential cable TV connection was always managed & maintained by NTPC Welfare. It was just a phone call away and all things were set, up & running. Sure I shall miss that wholeheartedly. Now first thing at my home - I have to subscribe a cable TV connection. Recharge it every month and then month after month. In case of a fault, I have to locate the cable guy and urge him to set it right. The conveyance of NTPC welfare will no longer be omnipresent in my post retirement life.

02. Routine medicine:  For routine medicine I just needed to reach the NTPC hospital and any doctor [be it a dentist even!] would happily prescribe your routine medicines for the entire month. Many times medicines were not available at NTPC pharmacy but that does not matter at all. Get the ’N.A’ certificate from the counter and buy it from outside, submit the bill and you are happy & healthy again!. Alas! I have to get it done from outside doctor & outside pharmacy. No special privilege for being an NTPCian out in this world!

03. Arranging a party:  Being in NTPC Township & arranging a party is just a phone a call away. Call the ICH guy whom you have known several years and all will be done without even once visiting the venue. This does not require extra costing too! Even for partying out of township, you may need to visit the venue once and all will be set at very competitive price.

04. Daichi will miss the ambience:  The not so long but comparatively a kilometre long periphery of the ETS, every corner of which have been visited by my little furry companion will be missed and perhaps will haunt him many days in the future. Since 2017 he is with us and every moment a vast NTPC township - be it Vindhyachal or North karanpura was always there till now. Certainly we all will miss it wholeheartedly.

05. Blood: Although I never needed it but it was always available for anybody at the township – the blood. Be it of any group and any RH, it was always a beck & call & made available from any of the NTPC townships. Its because NTPCians never hesitat to donate blood for a cause. Every NTPC township is synonym for a living blood bank.

06. Indian Coffee House: ICH is an inseparable part of NTPC. Since my Korba days I find omnipresent ICH all over NTPC. Be it Mumbai office to the well established stations like Korba, Vindhyachal or Rihand - it’s always there. Singrauli NTPC had some litigation problems sometime back but it all settled now. Some extra enthusiast says that taste of ICH food is better here but to be frank I never found any difference. It’s same all over NTPC. Nevertheless it’s healthy and hygienic and that’s what it counts. Sure I will miss it outside.

07. Animosity between BSNL & NTPC:  There is a life long standing animosity between BSNL tower & NTPC Township all over the country. Almost every NTPCian holds a BSNL sim card & have undergone the poor services of BSNL. Be it Vindhyachal, Rihand , Korba or North Karanpura. Everywhere it is same. The OTP rarely reaches before the time-out. Nevertheless, the show continues…

08. Presence of Netaji Subhas: Like every Indian city holds an M.G Road or an M.G Avenue or an M.G Stadium, Every NTPC venue too holds a Netaji Subhas Chandra venue – be it a stadium, a foot ball ground or an auditorium whatever it is. We in NTPC replaces M.G by Netaji Subhas Chandra and NTPC North Karanpura is no exception.

09. Stadium & Lake:  Every NTPC venue holds a fabulous stadium & a serpent lake which in many stations have become a weekend strolling place. Here in North Karanpura the first one do exists however, for the 2nd one the station management need to improvise little bit. The upcoming reservoir no-1 can be one of the all time great lake retreat for all of the NTPC venues. I have best wishes for the same.

10. 36+ years: Over the last 36+ years I have seen NTPC grown from strength to strength. From a mere few thousands megawatt [Singrauli+Korba] to today's 70000+ MW giant NTPC. However, time has come when the world is looking for a clean energy technology & our company can be a big name for that. Every new technology develops, disrupts & progresses in an 'S' curve analogy and every 'S' curve has a point of no-return slope such that when the development reaches that level, it rapidly spreads & eats over the older technology such that the older technology based industry dies of starvation! Here's a famous picture to depict it ...
