ATM is dispensing cash In NKSTPP !!! The ATMs are mostly for dispensing
cash. You insert your card, do the authentication and the machine ejects cash,
provided you have it in your bank account. Nothing news at all ! However, yesterday evening my wife after
getting a nondescript call from her friend’s circle, silently went out and came
back with a winning smile declaring that this time she has successfully
withdrew cash from the ATM !
While in other areas if an ATM is not dispensing cash, it becomes a news
but here in NKSTPP the ATM is dispensing cash is a sensational news ! So far
two ATM counters – Union bank & BOI both are open many days but the banks
are not taking care of refilling cash in these machines. Of course on many
occasions, it was the local strikes which prevented them entering the township but
despite that, many times they just skipped this remote area willfully! However,
the short of cash has created the online transaction a way of life here which is
rather a boon which cannot be denied at all.
… at the time of writing this article, the ATMs have gone dry
again !!!
The Rana’s country cottage – so near of NKSTPP ! The state Jharkhand can never boast
of having many posh metropolis or heavy industries but this state can sure
boast of having vast tract of green lands , coal and minerals. One such place
near our NKSTPP ETS is Macluskiganj which is barely 35 kilometers away from
here. Rana’s country cottage is one such lush resort situated 4 km off main
road into the forest. The entire area is so rich in green that there are many
such resorts nearby to choose for. Any direction to look for and you would only
notice tall rows of Sawl, Mahua and Palash all around. As the evening sets in,
incessantly chirping of birds would fill in your ears.
While morning & evening is full of birds sounds, in the
afternoon you would feel a strange aura of silence amidst tall trees standing
like ghosts all around. At times the silence is so deafening that you can even
feel your pulse beat.
However, your seditious trance will be broken soon by the sounds of a passing vehicle on the distant road. At the end of April I can still find some corners of the jungle is ablaze with crimson red flowers of Palash tree – also called ‘flame of forest’. The intense summer outside is not so blazing here in this part of Jharkhand. Nonetheless, the best time to visit this place is any time before or after intense summer.
However, I would love to come back Mackluskiganj anytime
again and again…
Coal so near yet so far: Coal - Black diamond, is the modern blood of
civilization. The electricity which makes the civilization running ,flows out
of black & dirty coal. In the wake of green energy , solar power or much
hyped renewable energy ,you can ignore it which is also a fancy way of showing
how futuristic you are but in the heart of your heart the fact remains 71% of India’s
total energy comes from this black & dirty coal and in the coming days the
situation is not going to be otherwise.
The NKSTPP is a pit head station but
unlike other stations here the mine is just at the backyard – 7.5 km with all
turns & twists. It’s a real stones-throw-distance ! The cheap coal makes
the cost of NKSTPP electricity very attractive ! But the sad part is that this
miniscule distance remains elusive & beyond reach for all these years ! The
land acquisition issues marred by misinformed & disinformed land owners
over the years, have halted the progress. Of late good progress have been made
and it is expected that so far this elusive black diamond is actually going to
land at the NKSTPP door step soon !
Beat the heat at NKSTPP: The Jharkhand state boasts of having a large number of rivers
– 32, but out of which only 4 are considered to be major rivers where one can
find water flows throughout the year. These are – Bokaro, Damodar, Jumar and
Karo. Majority of the rivers do not carry any good amount of water. Most of
them do not have even knee deep water at places! However, there is no dearth of
rainfall at Jharkhand state ! NKSTPP
receives around 1100 mm rainfall yearly. Therefore, the greenery is everywhere.
The humidity is always on the lower side and though the peak summer mercury hits
upto 41 ~ 42 degree centigrade but as the sun starts descending around 4PM the
temperature starts falling and at evening a cool breeze starts blowing. You
will never feel a sweltering heat which is very common at KSTPS, VSTPS, SSTPS
or anywhere else!
Therefore, this summer come to NKSTPP and beat the heat joyfully !
