Togetherness is the other name of happiness

Image
Togetherness is the other name of happiness Madhusudan ,Shukdev, Chittoranjan, Kaushik, Avijit, Arup , Manoj ,Supriyo    and I am from the same locality. Although we were studying in different schools but we were good friends. Whatever we used to do we did it together. When we were in senior CBSE class XII standard our favorite time pass was playing football in the afternoon . But slowly the pressure of study had stopped the soccer game. The small time we had in the afternoon, we used up in assembling together and talked about anything and everything under the sky. That was our daily refreshing time.   Those were the carefree adolescent days. We were then preparing for the combined entrance test for engineering and medical . We knew that life of each one of us would take a different turn soon.   One day Me and Madhusudan were there. Rests were yet to arrive.   I asked him, 'What will happen to us from here ?'   Without a blink he said, ...

The road not taken

Image
The road not taken   When the road is lost in the woods we just wake up to our capacity to make a choice that makes a difference. That is what the poet Robert Frost urges to   us to do in the poem 'The Road Not Taken'   Two roads diverged in a wood, and I ---- I took the one less traveled by, And that has made all the difference.   And that has made all the difference.... It was winter of 2002. Our personal computer had crashed once again. The recovery effort had destroyed all the data . I prepared myself for restoration of the most popular operating system .   I was hurling through the CD box for the right CD. My   eight year old bubbly daughter was helping me finding it. Then suddenly the cylinder shaped box dropped resulting in scurrying of all the CDs on the   floor.   She ran after them . Within little time she came back with couple of CDs in her little hands. Holding a colorful CD in her hand , She extended it to me an...
Gurukaku - the man of courage & dignity   Gurukaku was my friend Rana’s uncle. Gurukaku was an average nondescript bengali personality. His type of men can be found countless all along the roads of Bengal. Dressed in dhuti and kutra, a long tail bag hanging from the shoulder and a cigarette in the mouth while cycling at leisure from the shop -   That was Gurukaku . His watch repairing business was quite flourishing in those days.   He died at 63 years of age. Despite repeated warning from docs he never quit smoking. He never took his life seriously. His wife complains that except his son   he never took anything seriously in life. When two of the three main artery of his heart were fully clogged and the doctor was warning death every now and then Gurukaku was nonchalantly reading a thick book or playing his keyboard .   He said ,’Let me complete this book first , before I lay down on the cold bed of your hospital, I may not get time agai...

Project Days! Those who have earlier been in the NTPC stations like Korba, Vindhyachal, Rihand, Shaktinagar or others they know how beautiful the NTPC stations are and how sprawling & majestic the township & its quarters are! The most beautiful quarters are the D-types. They are like Bunglows with garden areas and beautiful fauna & flora of its own. Every quarter be it A,B,C or D; has it's own signature birds, animals & plants! Well, the NKSTPS townships are in the making. In another couple of years NKSTPS will also be turned into a beautiful place in this whole area. Lets preserve its fauna & flora now.  Meanwhile, let me remember few of my memories of my earlier station which are mostly similar and applicable to all of you who have been in projects...        Yes. They have come back again: Two of them were fighting with each other so intensely that they did not notice when me and Daichi [my pet] was just standing below them. While one...

Running is fun - but barefooted

Image
Running is fun     Those who are in the habit Jogging or morning walking for health or otherwise they know it's a fun. Beside making good health it helps busting tensions and makes one free from mundane daily life.   I've been jogging for many years now but ever since I've been 45 plus age I am   having pains in my feet and knees after every session of jogging.   Friends told me to buy good jogging shoes and I bought it but it did not solve the problem. Sometimes I felt it has enhanced the pain after every jogging.   The famous orthopedic surgeon of Hiranandani hospital entered the scene - “You've flat-feet, you have to wear arch support inner sole to get rid of the pain “   So a new fancy curvy inner sole entered into my pair of shoes. The pain during jogging seem to have reduced but my jogging capacity is greatly reduced. After every session I feel little pain in my feet & knees. This phase continued for next two years till...

Choti choti batyen of NKSTPP - III

Image
Choti choti batyen of NKSTPP - III Increasing over time !!! We NTPC-ians are mad over acronyms. For any sounding words or group of words we go for an acronym. Over the years these acronyms gradually have become NTPC jargons. More the meetings are there more acronyms are created. In CC [very old acronym for Corporate Center] due to more number of meetings atleast [if not more] 25% additional acronyms are there. PLF, AF, SD, UOH, APC, PTW, ROMP,SFT, LWC, BF, RBF, CG, CCR, UCB, BTL, BLF [Belt Loading Factor],AERCS [Accident Enquiry Recommendation Compliance Status]  are notable very few among them. However, one thing is very true for all these acronyms – they deteriorate in value over time. PLF deteriorates, APC deteriorates so are all other. But few acronyms which I’m pushing in NKSTPP – GLF [Gate Loading Factor], RLF [Road Loading Factor ] actually improves over time!!! In very short time they reach 200% and even more. Don’t believe? look at any NTPC road or gate, Out o...
